A migrant farmworker
during the 1950's who became a heroic labor organizer for
agricultural workers. Later Chavez became the founder of the
National Farm Workers Association which valiantly fought to
improve wages and working conditions for its members. In
1966, Chavez successfully negotiated the first collective
bargaining agreement for farmworkers and their families by
establishing the first comprehensive union health benefits
