Today's youth face many different and difficult challenges. As a teen, imagine the fear of finding out you are HIV positive; not being accepted by your peers because you are gay; the pressures of parental relationships, drugs and gangs; thoughts of suicide; or the effects from an eating disorder. The solutions to these and other problems seem insurmountable. But each of the six TKO, "Teens Kick Off" performers can relate to the emotions that many youths need to express if they are to understand themselves and others.
Acting Out offers an inside look at TKO, a unique yet effective approach for addressing today's adolescent concerns. Along with interviews with the TKO performers, video clips are shown of TKO theatre presentations. In front of a live audience, young adults use theatre performance to present the problems they've experienced, and the on-going process of growing-up. While expressing themselves through drama performance, they convey a message of hope for those dealing with the same troubles.
